30 days of creativity – Day 27 – Circus Theme Crafty Creatives Box

30 day creativity challenge Day  27 – Crafty Creatives box 16

A couple of weeks ago I went to a show at Creative Common in Bristol, which had freaks in cages; a dominatrix Panda, who for some reason was doing her own hoovering (get a gimp girl!) and a rock lion you could play with. A few days after that I spent all of Sunday and Monday nursing a gigantic hangover and box set binging on all episodes of Carnivàle, which has a bit of all that is good viewing as far as I am concerned; satanism, sex, magic realism… (imagine a pikey Angela Carter if you haven’t seen it.)

So when Crafty Creatives box 16 turned out to have a Victorian circus theme it seemed spot on for timing. I pay just under £13 a month to get a mystery box of goodies delivered to my house and so far, each box has been well worth the money.

In an unusually generous fit of delayed gratification I waited until my son got home from school to open the box. We were so excited! Box 16 is heavy and full! The main kit is to make a circus animal pendant which prove pretty tricky and needed the magic of Uhu instead of PVA to get anything to stick. We got a giraffe who now sports a crown and a saddle. Poor giraffe. Another bit of the box was to make coasters with photocopy transfers. I’d never done this before and I was crap at it, rubbing through the paper to the underneath too much. My son, however was a total natural and he produced something I’d be proud of. I will beat him later for his insolence and pass off his work as my own. (His is in the middle of the picture)

A set of really pretty little stamps came too, I love that we have a stamp of a stamp!  As usual we have some things leftover and we have plans for most of them.

This was a very relaxing few hours spent making stuff. Thank you www.craftycreatives.com

Over on Crackbook a bunch of us are going to be working through Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain: A Course in Enhancing Creativity and Artistic Confidence

The first exercises are to draw a self portrait, your hand and something else I can’t remember so you can see improvement. Then you move onto drawing a vase from a silhouette. You can see the vase exercise here – http://drawright.com/vaceface.htm.

The plan is to do an exercise every Sunday from the book.

30 days of creativity – Day 26 – Photos of Early Autumn

30 day creativity challenge Day  26, Oldbury Court in October.

Tuesday is my old lady dog walking day, so I dragged Pippa round her local park and took some pictures.

It is often more of a dog drag than a dog walk, she is reluctant and stroppy and has to be constantly kept on a close lead because she attacks other dogs. I’m very fond of her.

Conversation with my Kidneys

Kidneys: Yoo hoo, it’s nearly drink’o’clock, crack open the gin

Me: Not today kidneys, we spent the weekend trying to rid the world of alcohol by drinking it, time for a rest.

Kidneys: Yeah right, go on, the ice is in the fridge.

Me: Nope, I am serious, it’s time for a few days off.

Kidneys: ‘A few days’, you really are taking the piss, how about a glass of wine

Me: Nope, you can have some water

Kidneys: bleargh, water, no thank you, nasty tastless stuff. Have a drink, you’ve been working hard all day and you deserve it.

Me: Shut up

Kidneys: I can imagine that soft smooth trickle of alcohol easing my stresses and strains. It also makes you wittier and more attractive.

Me: Water will make your skin glow

Kidneys: I haven’t got skin

Me: How about a cup of coffee?

Kidneys: With some rum in?

Me: No, shut up

Kidneys: Pleasssssssssseeeeeeeee, how about a Guinness, that is healthy and good for you. Pretty much a replacement for food.

Me: No, if you are good kidneys I’ll give you some pudding on Saturday.

Kidneys: But all over the world people are celebrating wine’o’clock, you are missing out.

Me: Shut the fuck up
